LBS
defined
LBS are also known as Mobile Location-Based Services (MLBS),
Mobile Positioning, LBS Services, Mobile Location Services, MLS,
and Location Services. Whatever the name, LBS involve a combination
of communication technology and some sort of tracking/position
estimating technology such as GPS (satellites) or triangulation
using mobile cell networks - all designed to most accurately
determine the location of a person or physical object at a point in
time.
LBS
applications
There are hundreds of LBS applications. With the technology now
available to locate the position of a person or object and to
integrate this with some sort of information database (e.g. a
vehicle/asset ID number, a mobile handset ID, user details etc),
applications are limited only by the imagination. Examples
include:
- Navigation guides with maps, directions
- Traffic and weather alerts
- Location triggered advertising and electronic coupons
- Movie, theatre and restaurant location and booking
- Communication and emergency services for children, aged and
infirm
- Tracking and reporting for vehicles and other assets.
mobiles2go has extensive experience in the provision of LBS
products and services for these latter two applications.
